The Work Ahead is a regional workforce summit bringing together employers, educators, workforce and economic development partners, and community leaders to tackle one of the most important questions facing our region:
How Do We Build the Workforce Needed for What Comes Next?
Hosted by Westmoreland County Community College in partnership with the RETI Engine, the summit will focus on two sectors with significant implications for our region’s economic future: Advanced Manufacturing and Energy.
This is a day for employers to share what they need, workforce and education partners to listen and respond, and regional leaders to identify opportunities to work together.
The Workforce Is Changing. Are We Ready?
Technology is changing jobs. Employers are looking for new skills. Major investments in manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, and innovation are creating new opportunities across the region.
Preparing for those opportunities requires more than individual programs or organizations working independently.
It Requires a Regional Workforce Strategy.
The Work Ahead will bring together employers, educators, workforce leaders, and economic development partners to align around the talent needs shaping our region today—and the workforce we need to build for tomorrow.
Two Workforce Tracks
Advanced Manufacturing
What does the next generation of manufacturing talent need to know?
Explore how automation, robotics, advanced materials, digital technologies, and changing production environments are reshaping manufacturing occupations and employer skill requirements.
Industry and workforce leaders will discuss talent gaps, emerging occupations, training needs, and opportunities to build stronger pathways into advanced manufacturing careers.
Energy
What workforce will be needed to support the region’s evolving energy economy?
In partnership with the RETI Engine at West Virginia University, this track will explore the workforce implications of emerging energy technologies, infrastructure investment, innovation, and regional economic development.
The conversation will connect employers and workforce partners with RETI’s broader regional efforts and identify opportunities to prepare workers for the careers being created by the changing energy economy.
