Career Connections Center | Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood, Pennsylvania

Welcome to the Career Connections Center

Westmoreland’s Career Connections Center (CCC) offers resources and tools to help students with all phases of career development, from choosing a major, to starting a job search, preparing for an interview and more.

Career Skill Education

Deciding on a Major or Career Path

Deciding on a major or career path can be challenging. The CCC offers help for students who are undecided about what majors or career paths might be a good fit and students interested in learning more about the path they have chosen.

While the CCC staff cannot tell students what path is best for them, staff can provide students with resources and support to help them make an educated decision on which major and career path relates to their interests.

Job Search Resources

The CCC can assist students with all phases of the job search process from resume and cover letter writing, to networking basics and practice interviews.

The CCC offers opportunities for students to connect with employers through Handshake, on-campus tabling, informal Career Chats, and special events.

This does not guarantee students will get a job, but offers them an opportunity to develop and practice the skills they need for their job search.

Handshake

Interested in a full- or part-time job? Internship? Volunteer Opportunity Curious what opportunities are available related to your major?

Handshake is Westmoreland’s official job resource for students and alumni. Handshake is an intuitive, easy-to-use job search system that helps students connect with employers.

When using Handshake or any job board, students and alumni should research employers and opportunities before applying for or accepting employment. Protect yourself and your information by recognizing and avoiding job/internship scams.

  • Handshake uses an algorithm (like Netflix or Spotify) to help students find jobs specific to their interests. The more they fill out their profile, the more Handshake populates opportunities the student is looking for.
  • Follow and message employers.
  • Read reviews of other student’s experiences in internships, co-ops and jobs to help decide if an opportunity is a good fit for the student.
  • Access employer and Career Connections Center Events.

Currently enrolled students will receive an invitation to activate their account at the start of the semester. Students are encouraged to complete their profile to take advantage of everything Handshake has to offer: job searching, resume review, career events, career fairs, employer reviews and much more.

Alumni, click here for information on how to access Handshake.

Handshake has a number of tutorials and a great support team. Below are some resources to help students get started.
